There were 26 Gold Fleet and 17 Silver Fleet teams competing in the 2009 Sea Otter Regatta, the first of five 10% regattas in PCISA, hosted by the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club. Event photos available.
Saturday began with a 45 minute delay due to lack of wind. The breeze filled in from the NW at 5 kts, and continued to shift throughout the day, covering a 180 degree range. The wind finally settled from the South, 5 – 10kt, oscillating 15 degrees. Two full rotations filled up the long day of excellent racing under overcast skies. Sunday brought more of the same in the morning, with 5 kt. Easterlies to start the day. After clocking to the South, the breeze settled into 5 – 10 kts of regular oscillations, putting the windward mark directly in front of the spectators. Two more complete rotations were completed for the day, resulting in 32 races completed for the weekend. Congratulations to Newport Harbor Varsity for first place in Gold fleet, with a very impressive 59 points, followed by Point Loma Varsity and Corona del Mar Varsity. Congratulations also for first place finishers in Silver fleet, Newport Harbor JV2, followed by Coronado JV and The Bishops School.
